So how does it apply to the flat earth context?

What I think instead is that the powers that be, whatever power they have, either do not have a consensus among them or have decided to let us find out about flat earth, because maybe they cannot hide it any longer.

Indeed I do not think, unlike many other conspiracy theorists, that the powers that be have a complete consensus among them, otherwise this cannot be explained:

1) on the one hand they feed us lies on TV, and perpetuate our ignorance through mass media and education
2) on the other hand they let us have the internet.

So my conclusion, while being a full-fledged conspiracy theorist, is that they either do not have a consensus, or they do not have as much control as conspiracy theorists normally think.

Non-conspiracy theorists of course generally think that the powers that be do not exist altogether.

i brought that up because it seems obvious to me that a lot of 'controlled opposition' is just trolls having a giggle. Look closely at tfes.org, full of poes with alts arguing both sides. its like a fun debating society for them, with the bonus of laughing at frustrated globeheads and true flatheads alike, who get sucked into pointless debates with fake opponents.

Well, the same can be applied to 911. Do you agree that it was an inside job? Where are the honest political science professors telling the truth? The only one is Swiss professor Daniele Ganser, who says the truth about it, and never got tenure because of it:
